Sports massage targets the muscle groups your training loads most. Before an event it is brisk and preparatory; after, it is about flushing, releasing and restoring length so you recover sooner and train again with less stiffness.
Because I also coach movement, I will tell you when what you are feeling is a massage problem and when it is a loading or mobility problem — and what to do about either.
We talk through your training week and where you feel it.
Deep, specific work on the loaded tissue — calves, hips, glutes, shoulders — whatever your sport demands.
Assisted stretch and a couple of drills to take into your next session.
Both work, for different reasons. Before an event: lighter, brisk, 24–48 hours out. After: deeper, within a day or two, to speed recovery.
Sports work is firm but it should never make you brace. I work to the edge of what is useful, not past it — tell me and I adjust.
